GROS PLAN PIERRE RISCH HAS BRILLIANTLY REHABILITED PASTELS
"With the expansion of photography, pastel, the favorite of the portrait painters of the XVIII century, slowly became obsolete."
Pierre Risch, who does not mind a challenge, undertook in the 70s to give back to pastel its nobility. For pastel, contrary to popular beliefs, is not synonymous of soft colours, or realistic portraits, flowers or landscapes. The collections of the Musee Antoine Lecuyer de Saint Quentin, that has some 90 portraits by Maurice Quentin Delatour, the official portrait painter of Louis XV, are there to prove it, and the curator, Madame Christine Debrie, Doctor of History of Art, supports Pierre Risch's endeavour.
The painter, coming to pastel after working with oil and watercolour where he excels, has shown brilliantly that the loss of interest for this graphic technique, was not justified.
A PAINTER OF CELEBRATIONS
He discovers the Venice Carnival that will become the theme of his work. Since then, Pierre Risch has become the painter of celebration and colours. His brightly coloured paintings mirror the ambience of Venice. His masked characters, his musicians, his sarabandes, show superbly the movement, the poses painted from life, a delight for the eyes and for the heart. The visitors to les Baux de Provence last month recognized this, Pierre Risch having been the guest of the town at the Hotel de Manville. His exhibition was a resounding success .
THE LIST OF HIS ACHIEVEMENT SAYS IT ALL
After studying at the Ecole des Arts Decoratifs in Strasbourg and a first prize as a young painter in Geneva, and having recived the title of Chevalier des Arts et Lettres, Pierre Risch figures in most of the private collections in the world. Among some official places and public collections that show his work, are: mural frescoes in Ulis (Essonne), the prefecture d'Evry, the Bibliotheque d'Orsay, the Conseil General de l'Essonne, the Regie Renault, The Assemblee Nationale, The Caisse nationale de prevoyance, the Aeroport de Paris... Public collections : his work figures in the musee Antoine Lecuyer in Saint Quentin.
